Azul Airlines(AD, Campinas Viracopos ) is set to become the first scheduled operator to serve the east Brazilian city of Paulo Afonso when it launches a 3x weekly service to neighbouring Salvador  on December 16, 2013. The flights will operate onboard one of Azul's forty-six ATR72-500/600s. Inaugurated in 1972, since 1980 the airfield has been run by the Brazilian airport management parastatal, Empresa Brasileira de Infraestrutura Aeroportuária, also known as Infraero.
